Vertical diversification is provided by Dess et al. who note that Tesla chose to manage the supply of the batteries used in their vehicles by building a super factory to focus on potentially reducing the overhead cost of vehicle production by avoiding the need to buy batteries from another organization and managing the overall cost of producing each battery of 30 percent (Dess et al., 2021)
