Answer the following questions;
1. The Friends video about nonverbal clues is about personal relationships. Does the video offer any insights about communication in the business world? Explain.
2. The body language expert described several "tells" that may enable us to know when someone is telling a lie. What other body language "tell" do you think would be most useful in business?
3. The third video clip includes an Asian moderator and some Asian actors. Nonetheless, this video was developed with consideration to body language traits in Western Cultures, especially the individualistic U.S. culture. Perhaps it was developed to help Asians better understand Western body language. How important do you think body language differences may be? What challenges may these differences cause for Leaders who are working with multi-cultural teams?
4. Some of us seem to be more tuned in to others and are better able to read their intentions --- this ability is sometimes called our Emotional Quotient (EQ) as opposed to our Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Perhaps those people have subconsciously learned through experience some of the "tells" described by Jan Hargrave. Perhaps they subconsciously react to the observed body language but are completely unaware of their own body language and what it tells others. Would you find it useful to be able to read others body language? Would you find it useful to understand and control your own body language? How would these skills be useful for a leader?
- Merely expressing your opinion will not demonstrate learning.
