Vincent then starts up a conversation with Robin another member of his football club. Robin is anxious to start up a small business of his own. Vincent offers him a shop fitted out as a caf in a shopping centre. The agreed rental is $2,000 per week. Robin signs the lease. Business is not good, and Robin becomes worried when he sees other shopkeepers leaving the centre. Robin asks Vincent whether his rent can be reduced to

$1,000 per week. Vincent agrees in a conversation with Robin at the club. There is no formal acknowledgement of this arrangement. For the next 10 weeks, Robin pays the reduced rental and Vincent accepts it. Vincent hears a rumour that Robin is going to give notice to terminate the lease. Vincent is annoyed at this and sues Robin in the Local Court to recover $20,000 "arrears in rent".

Advise Robin whether he could stop Vincent from denying his promise.
