W2 Discussion Question 1: Career Brainstorming

Instructions:

Once you get your results, choose two of the careers from your results that you think you might be interested in in the future. (Forensic Psychologist and Animal Behaviorist)

Now, go to LinkedIn Jobs and find two job descriptions for each of the careers you chose (total of four job descriptions). For the first career and the two job descriptions, identify five common key phrases or words that are in both descriptions. Then, do the same for the second career.

So, for instance, you might find:

Career: Professor

Key words: research agenda, critical thinking, teaching, published, Banner

Career: Non-Profit Executive Director:

Key words: proven leadership, budget management, board work, volunteering, MS Office

Post: In your initial discussion post, answer the following questions:

• Two careers you found in CareerExplorer and brief explanation of what they are.
• A brief reflection of why you think you might be interested in those careers.
• A statement of why you think keywords are important to include in a resume and cover letter.
• List of the five key words/phrases that you found for each career.
• Links to the four job descriptions you found for those careers.
