Walmart was so efficient due to constantly applying logistics successfully in their operations that they were able to offer assistance faster than FEMA in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The interstate highway system has helped Walmart with delievering products quickly to their nationwide stores in order to meet consumer demand via the large amount of trucks available whenever necessary. A majority of Walmart's merchandize (85%) are delievered to stores via cross-docking systems and distrubution centers. Being able to cross - dock means that less time is wasted in waiting for products to be taken to their final destination while the product is in a temporary waiting area since products are loaded without having said temporary waiting area.
