The movie industry was originally based in LA because the strong sunlight was good for shooting interior scenes. Geographically it's near desert, ocean and alpine forests so was ideal for the early days of film-making. The film-making industry has since moved out of Hollywood but it's still where thousands of wannabe Tom Cruises and Jennifer Lopez spend the day.
