ANALYZE: 2023 Data Set on Death PMI MTH315 Project #1.xlsx
MTH 315 Project #1 Data Analysis The purpose of this project is to familiarize you with basic concepts of data analysis. This exercise will help you develop an understanding of data analysis through data visualization and descriptive statistics. You will conduct a basic analysis on the provided dataset to identify and understand distributions of variables and their impact on death events.
Using Microsoft Excel, you will analyze and create visual representations of the data. You will then write a report in Microsoft Word that answers each of the below prompts. Copy and paste the graphs/charts that you created in Microsoft Excel, as needed, into your Microsoft Word report to support your conclusions. Turn in only your report written in Microsoft Word.
Start:
Document your report in Word. Upload as Word file or PDF file. Insert charts where appropriate/directed to support your conclusions. Use proper grammar and syntax. Name your report with your last name. Please write your report in the order of the prompts below to ensure that no aspect gets overlooked.
1. Identify each variable according to its data type - Numeric or Categorical.
For Numeric Variables:
2. State the min, max, mean, mode, standard deviation, and variance for all numeric variables. Describe what each calculation tells you about your numeric variable. Describe what overall conclusions you can make from the descriptive statistics.
3. Documenta frequency histogram for each variable to show its distribution. Describe what each histogram tells you about the distribution of your numeric variable. Describe what overall conclusions you can make from the histograms.
For Categorical Variables:
4. Complete a bar graph to show the distribution / count for each categorical variable. Compare and contrast the bar graphs/ counts for each categorical variable. Be detailed!
Causes of Death:
5. Using the appropriate graph, plot then compare and contrast each numeric variable in the event of death.
6. Using the appropriate graph, plot then compare and contrast each categorical variable in the event of death.
7. Does age/ sex have any influence in cause of death for this dataset? Explain in detail. Support with graphs.
8. Identify the leading cause of death, explain your logic, and support your conclusion with needed graphs.
