Water flows from a reservoir through a square-edged entrance into a 150 mm inside diameter pipe. The pipe's inside surface is rough, with roughness height (e) is 0.30 mm. The pipe contains two elbows and a partially- closed valve. At the end of the pipeline the water discharges into the atmosphere. The pipeline configuration is shown in the figure below. The Moody Chart is given on the following page. (a) Calculate the volumetric flow rate from the pipe in m/s. [15 marks] (b) Estimate the accuracy (i.e. % error) of this calculation based on an estimate in the error in the friction factor. (c) State any assumptions used to solve this problem. Use local loss coefficients as follows: [4 marks] [1 mark] Entrance Elbow Valve Kent = 0.5 Kelb -0.40 Kvalve = 5.6 Water properties are p= 1000 kg/m and = 1.00 x 10- N.s/m Patm 35 m Water Reservoir Entrance 10 m Patm length, 150 mm Valve 11 m length, 150 mm 11 m length, $ 150 mm Figure 3.
