We are designing an air conditioning process that will supply air at 20 [C] and 45% RH to a large production facility. The building is 100 [m] long, 30 [m] wide, and 10 [m] high. Due to off-gassing from some of the processes it is necessary to "turn over" the air every two hours to prevent accumulation of toxic vapors. In other words, the entire volume of air must be replaced by the fresh air flow every two hours. The air conditioning system is designed to handle the most likely extreme temperature which is 40 [C]. The region is known for moderately high humidity, so we will consider and inlet relative humidity of 70%. Answer the following questions to characterize the required air conditioning system.

(Hint: the inlet to the facility is the outlet of the AC unit)

What is the volumetric flow rate required into the facility?

What is the mass flow rate of dry air into the facility?

What is the minimum temperature required to meet the relative humidity target for the flow into the facility?

What is the flow rate of liquid water condensate under these conditions?

How much heat must be removed from the outside air stream to meet this minimum temperature? This should be in units of Watts.

How much heat must be added back into the air to meet the temperature specifications for the inlet to the facility?
