We are mixing in a preheater 1.5 m3/min air at STP and 0.1 m3/min methane at 5 psig and 30 oC. The gas leaves the preheater at 250 oC and 1 atmosphere and enters a furnace which operates at 80% conversion of the methane. Assume complete combustion occurs.

Determine:

a. The composition of the feed gas to the reactor in mole fraction. (Use ideal gas law and standard pressure and temperature approach to help with solution)

b. The volumetric and molar rate of the gas leaving the preheater.

c. The composition of the product gas from the furnace on a mole fraction basis.

d. Partial pressure of the CO2 in the flue gas from the furnace.
