We can't avoid politics forever. In the book that I'm reading Ariely makes the claim that dishonesty is to some extent "contagious." What does this mean for our current political environment? On page 208 of the honest truth about dishonesty Ariely states there is an equivalency of dishonesty in the two dominant political parties - however this was written in 2012 and I think he is a victim of his own self-interested blindness because he wants consulting gigs with people affiliated with both parties and he is self-deceiving himself into believe he can be "neutral."
