We hear day in and out that we need to save the planet and be more eco friendly and you have society falling in line thinking that they are making a difference when in reality the companies are making profits for being misleading. I travel for work and noticed that the hotels have made several changes in the past few years. One was mentioned in the article about the towels. Most of these changes started during covid. All the while now that people are traveling again why staff employees to clean all the towels and bedding when you are not changing them daily, but only in between stays. This saves the company labor costs. But that is not what the hotel is advertising, they are pushing saving water. The list can go one and on. When shopping you see eco friendly all natural products, but in the end they have coloring or dangerous chemicals that are on the labels. A lot of these business are being dishonest but they know that people want to make an effort so they are taking advantage of the situation. So now people are wearry and slow to believe in new products or processes because they have been lied to so much.

From a business perspective, what are the dangers of greenwashing? If you were a marketing executive, would you have a policy against greenwashing? Why or why not?

Greenwashing is false advertisement. Any company that is saying one thing and doing another is not a company that I personally would want to work for. If I were a marketing executive I would ensure we not only had policy in place, but repercausions that go along with it. Lying to the public never works in the long run. The truth always comes out. When organizations greenwash, they run the risk of loosing more business. The word spreads fast with social media platforms, star ratings, and yelp reviews that often times the damage can't be reversed.
