We live in a society where leadership is a highly lauded phenomenon. Students are encouraged to develop leadership skills and employees are encouraged to practice leadership in the workplace. Many schools and organizations put people through leadership development programmes, and many individuals aspire to be leaders in their own capacity. However, in the book "The End of Leadership" by Barbara Kellerman, she notes that there is less and less respect for authority and those in leadership positions.
