We looked at the steps that the defense team must take to protect the rights of the defendant who is found guilty at trial. One of those tasks is to turn the file over to the appellate attorneys, even knowing that the appellate specialists will be considering whether or not the trial attorney may have provided ineffective assistance of counsel.

Use Lexus+, or an internet search engine to find a case where an appeals court found a defense attorney providing ineffective counsel assistance, preferably in your state.

In your initial post, address the following prompts:

• Provide a brief summary of the facts and law of the case and what the trial attorneys were alleged to have done or did not do that led to the allegations of ineffective assistance of counsel.
• Explain the decision made by the appeals court relating to the ineffective assistance of counsel.
• Discuss if there were any consequences to the trial attorneys who were accused of ineffective assistance of counsel and what relief, if any, was provided to the defendant.
