We selectively quote when what is said is said uniquely or how something said.

If a media writer is a novice or not a professional, one way that this will stand out is when the author is too dependent upon quotes. Selectively means that we typically quote twice for every five hundred words at most because the writer should be paraphrasing as a word expert. Media writing professionals know how to paraphrase and selectively integrate information with citations.

When writing direct quotes, we always use the word said because we can not guess as to the source's motivation or intention. The use of the word said is direct and the reporter is making no assumption. Direct quotes are placed around the words the speaker shared. A partial quote is when some of the words a source shared are quoted.

Here is an example of quotes with the word said from a story in The New York Times:

1.) How Honest Can Demi Lovato Be? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/16/arts/music/demi-lovato-interview.html?action=click&module=Editors%20Picks&pgtype=Homepage

The singer is opening up about her queerness, her near fatal overdose and her journey to living her truth. "I'm ready to feel like myself," she said.

You need to write a story where your audience is that of The Dayton Daily News. The story requires asource quoted a minimum of two times and is a minimum of three hundred words.

Select a speech by a 2022 or a 2023 Ted Talk expert on YouTube and address the 6 W's. Include a minimum of two direct quotes for the story.

One of Dayton Ohio's most successful philanthropic groups use current fashion trends,

long eyelashes, rehearsed skits and wigs to make audiences laugh and open their

wallets and purses.

RubiGirls is a comedic troup started over 30 years ago by Wright State University

Students. RubiGirls' mission is "to see an end to HIV/AIDS, anend to discrimination, and an end

to intolerance and injustice." They raised over 2 million dollars by 2021.

At the December 13, 2015 Dayton Tedx Dayton, Square One creator, elementary

school teacher and one of RubiGirl creators Joshua Stuckey shared that Wonder Woman was the

RubiGirl's inspirational catalyst.

"All I need to fight prejudice and discrimination is a big wig and some eyelashes," said

the founding RubiGirl Joshua Stuckey and Wright State University undergraduate education

major in his 2015 Dayton TedX Talk.

Growing up a gay man in a rural community had not been easy. RubiGirls could help

others, make people laugh and tap their performance talent.

In the late 1980s Stuckey and his friends wore women's clothes while hosting University

of Dayton students who paid with beer to watch the live comedies on Rubicon Street.

The Rubicon theatrical players became the RubiGirls and they asked for donations .The

group had a cause they wanted to support.

At first the RubiGirls collected money to fight HIV/AIDS . This was not by chance. Some

of the original RubiGirls were starting to die of AIDS in the 1980s.

The donations were first given to HIV/AIDS research. Currently academic scholarships,

housing for LGBTQ+ youth and the Dayton Art Institute's fundraisers benefit from the RubiGirl's

work.

The 13 as a group reached out to support the Oregon District after the mass shooting.

And they rode the Link System's bicycles as spokes models.

In the Dayton TedTalk Stuckey asked the audience members to unleash their inner

RubiGirl.

"Make a difference with your difference."
