We will be visiting with Jane Clive, the current head of the IT department at the Chicago North America Branch of Global Delivery Direct (GDD), an airline freight delivery service. GDD has grown rapidly over the years but is currently suffering stagnant growth due to strong market competition. Jane is acutely aware that there is a need to become more efficient, and to work together across the company to strategically plan an initiative that will encourage company growth with a competitive edge. Jane also knows that much of this initiative could be led efficiently with a knowledge management office and department. Jane decided that she is going to take on the challenge of convincing company President E. Rockfish to let Jane put together a knowledge management office and hire a KM manager. To begin her campaign, Jane has decided to send President Rockfish a memo to begin conversations on the value of knowledge management to an organization. As she is very busy, she has asked you (a trusted employee) to complete the memo

• make a memo addressed to company President E. Rockfish explaining why it is imperative that the company create a new KM department at GDD. Be sure to include discussion surrounding the interdisciplinary nature of KM, the value of using KM processes to share information, and why the dynamic nature of the KM cycle fits the change and innovation needs in business today.
• The memo must be persuasive! Use descriptive words that show enthusiasm and present the strongest arguments you can make to support the company's need to bring a KM department on board.
