We wish to analyse the relationship between the female employment total, the part-time employment total and five-year employment growth in the Financial and Insurance Services

We wish to analyse the relationship between the female employment total, the part-time employment total and five-year employment growth in the Financial and Insurance Services industry.

  1. Using ALL relevant simple linear regression tools you have used in this unit, analyse the relationship between the female employment total and the part-time employment total. Step as the followings:(1. What do you expect the relationship to be between female employment total and the part-time employment total? 2. Use Excel to plot a scatter diagram against the part-time employment total vs female employment total. [Insert>Scatter and select unjoined dots] of female employment total (Y) against part-time employment total (X), ]. Comment on how this visual relationship compares with your expectations.3. Based on the scatter plot, comment on whether it is appropriate to fit a regression line to the data. Estimate a model for the relationship between female employment total and part-time employment total by using Excel to produce the simple linear regression output.4. Using the Excel output provided, state the estimated linear regression equation for this data, being sure to define the variables.)

  2. Predict the number of females employed when there are 1000 people employed part-time in a region. Using all relevant available information from part (a), discuss the likely validity of this prediction.

  3. We now investigate the relationship between female employment total, part-time employment total and Five-year growth.

    1. Generate a regression output of female employment on part-time employment and Five-year growth. Interpret the estimated slope coefficients.

    2. Has the coefficient of determination increased in comparison to your model in (a)? Explain why/why not.

    3. At the 1% level of significance, test if the overall model is significant.

  4. This is a general concept question and is not related to the data set provided. Correlation does not imply causality is an important concept when referring to regression. Briefly describe this concept. Provide one example of how it may occur. Your answer in this section does not need to be related to the data set provided for the assignment. Your answer must not exceed 100 words.
