We wish to compare three interventions for preterm infants, with regard to effects on the infants' heart rates: Nonnutritive Sucking (NNS), Nonnutritive Sucking plus Rocking (NNSR), and Rocking (R). Nine infants are randomly assigned to six different orderings of the three treatments. Heart rate, the dependent variable, is measured after each treatment.
