Week 6 Project - Kotter's The Heart of Change as Applied to Outsourcing In the late 90s, Harvard Business School Professor John Kotter broke ground with his research on organizational change theory. His findings, chronicled in his book Leading Change, included an 8 Step Model for Change Furthermore, John Kotter and Dan Cohen authored The Heart of Change which Illuminates real-life stories of change in action and how scalable change is not only possible, but sustainable. The discussion centers around how leaders influence and affect behavioral change in people which ultimately drives organizational transformation and success. Requirements for our work will be limited to the introduction by Kotter and Cohen which discusses the concepts of change and steps which guide behavior, create urgency, and build a ladder to organizational change. Deliverables include the following: 1. Read and interpret the material provide on Kotter's theory. Utilizing Kotter's 8 Steps for Change as the framework formulate how the steps can lead the case study organization, Assist Me, through effective and sustained transformation Relevant case study facts Assist Me, a mid-size assisted living facility, comprising two locations, has decided to outsource its nursing assistants (personal care assistants) within the next six months. The outsourcing will save an estimated 18% in salaries and benefits for this group of current employees and will generate an additional 5% in profit margin for the organization The company will continue to employ RNs and PTs to provide clinical care and oversee the nursing assistants. Given that the nursing assistants will be outsourced, the organization may gain flexibility in moving resources across its two facilities The company is looking to reinvest 50% of the savings in infrastructure upgrades for residents Stakeholder groups have expressed concern for the strategic decision. They fear there will be an impact on care, operations, and overall satisfaction (for residents, family members, and remaining employees), among other things . . . . You are the CEO of Assist Me. 2. Using Kotter's principles, and your understanding of the benefits and challenges of outsourcing how would you guide change for this organizational initiative while also creating sustainable organizational transformation for the long-term? 3. Next, give me your opinion is Kotter's theory still relevant in our current business climate and given our existing societal norms and behaviors? (Please do not factor in our currenterisis, simply recall back to "business as usual" and out pre-pandemic environment) What still works and is applicable and what needs to be updated for contemporary business practices and culture? 4. Finally, how does change currently occur in your organization? Is there a typical theory or method deployed, is it haphazard, or is it nonexistent? Think back to a time when your organization was in a state of transformation..what was the one thing that leaders could have done more effectively when leading stakeholders and the organization through this change? Assignment should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document Your submission should be a maximum of 1,000 words in length and should follow APA guidelines, as referenced in the syllabus Reference the Written Assignment Grading Rubric for the evaluation elements, Week 6 Project - Kotter's The Heart of Change as Applied to Outsourcing In the late 90s, Harvard Business School Professor John Kotter broke ground with his research on organizational change theory.
