First, read the section on IT Project Management. Pay particular attention to the three areas identified as the "triple constraints and address the following three questions:

  1. Which of the triple constraints do you think is the most important for the project of implementing an enterprise hiring system for MTC? You should address it from a project perspective, not the business overall. (Note: This is not about the hiring process itself, but the IT project to implement the technology solution to improve the hiring process.)
  2. Briefly explain why you selected that constraint.
  3. Discuss how you would ensure that this aspect was well addressed to maximize MTC's chance for a successful implementation.

Student A answered:

The triple constraint I think is the most important for the project of implementing an enterprise hiring system for MTC is Scope because "clearly defining the project scope and business requirements is key to project planning" (UMGC, nd). I selected scope because this gives the project manager objectives and end goal of the technology's implementation and its importance to the company. Without this scope, the project would not have a definitive plan, which will impact cost and time. Scope creep can occur if the project "becomes bigger than originally intended, with detrimental impact on cost, time, and outcome" (UMGC, Nd). MTC is dependent on this project not just to enhance their hiring process, but also to stay competitive and maintain current and future contracts. The constraint and scope sets deadlines and gives the project manager tools to pay attention to the plan's details and progress (UMGC, Nd). To ensure the project's objectives are fulfilled, scope also gives the opportunity for the project manager to create another plan in case of any changes in requirements and continue to stay on track. To ensure that this aspect was well addressed to maximize MTC's chance for a successful implementation, I would plan meetings with different executives and managers who need to have certain needs in the technology solution, as well meetings throughout the implementation to ensure the project is on the right track. I would also make sure I have a clear understanding of MTC as a company, and how this implementation will of benefit to them. All throughout the implementation process, asking for constant feedback on the project's progress and my performance as a project manager.

Student B answered:

Time is the most important constraint for MTC in finding and incorporating a technology solution for the hiring system. I chose this constraint because this is already a time-sensitive situation for them. The hiring system that is currently in place is way too long and inefficient, a technological system would greatly improve their process. I would make sure that they buy a system that can cater to the needs of the company and that can easily be incorporated with the current company. I would talk to everyone on the hiring team in different departments. I would develop a feedback spreadsheet to see how people like or dislike different options and do free trial runs with different systems to see which would work best. Making sure that everyone is heard and has a chance to address their concerns. The system will save time and money by making the process more efficient and improving the chances that people will want to work for them.

Questions:

I. Assess whether both student A and B post accurately and sufficiently addresses the questions asked in the discussion topic.

II. Assess whether the information is correct or not, and/or complete, and provide correct information to enhance each of the student's discussion. Incorporating additional research will strengthen participation.
