Your storemay generate hazardous waste through normal business operations. Due to federal and stateregulations, waste items cannot be disposed of in any trash, dumpster, sink, toilet or down any drain.Rather, these items must be disposed of by following the Hazardous Waste Management Program.CVS Pharmacy has contracted a licensed hazardous waste company, Stericycle (formerlyStrongPak), to properly transport hazardous waste from our stores to licensed disposal facilities. Bytaking this training you are doing your part in remaining compliant with the CVS Pharmacy HazardousWaste Management Program.After completing this training, you should be able to: Identify items that may be considered hazardous waste Understand the restriction around the disposal of hazardous waste Understand basic emergency response proceduresEmergency PreparednessDesignated store colleagues, including the Front Store management team, have received additionaltraining on emergency response. In the event of an emergency, you must assist as directed by theManager-On-Duty. You must also be aware that the emergency contact information is posted next tothe appropriate telephones in your store. When in doubt, please call 911.Regulatory VisitsIf you are approached by an Inspector from a Regulatory Agency, you MUST immediately inform theManager-on-Duty, as they have received additional training on how to properly handle a regulatoryvisit. You MUST NOT answer any questions prior to informing the Manager-on-Duty. All contactfrom regulatory agencies must be reported by the Manager-on-Duty through RADAR to ensurea timely and correct response by CVS Health\'s Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S)Department.ViolationsViolations for non-compliance with environmental regulations can result in sanctions and penalties toyour store and our company. This can be detrimental to our commitment to environmentalresponsibility and reflect poorly on our company. Further, your failure to follow policy and proceduresrelated to hazardous waste management can impact our stores\' bottom line and will be regarded as aviolation and may result in disciplinary action up to, and including, termination of employment.3Front Store Hazardous Waste Management BasicsDisposal Restrictions for Hazardous WasteAll areas of a CVS Pharmacy store (Pharmacy, MinuteClinic and Front Store) may generatehazardous waste. Some products contain certain ingredients that make them hazardous whendisposed. Some examples include:Front Store* Waste pest control products, household cleaners and personal careproductsPharmacy Dropped pills and expired return to stock vialsOther Waste store supplies and unwanted personal items* Additional examples of Front Store products that may be considered hazardous waste whendisposed are discussed further below.Designated store colleagues, including the Front Store management team, have received additionaltraining and are able to properly handle these items.You are not permitted to: Dispose of any of the hazardous waste items discussed in this courseo If you need to dispose of any of these types of items, contact the Manager-On-Dutyimmediately. Only trained colleagues may dispose of hazardous waste. Clean up spills of hazardous waste without specific trainingo Contact the Manager-On-Duty if you are unsure whether a spilled item is hazardouso Contact the CVS Health Safety Hotline at 1-888-464-2960 if additional instruction isrequiredIf you have been identified to process damages/final disposition items by your Store Manager, youmust complete the FS Hazardous Waste Management Program - Damages/Final DispositionSupplement (course 500156/500157, depending on state).Damaged or returned items that are leaking must be bagged immediately in a StrongPak selfsealingbag until someone with the proper training can process the item and determine if it ishazardous.Prior to discarding anything, remember to stop and read the label. Do not put something in thetrash or down the drain unless you are sure it is not hazardous. When in doubt, always ask forassistance. If your Manager is not available to determine if a waste item is hazardous, immediatelyplace the item in a StrongPak self-sealing bag and seal the bag completely.
