PURPOSE:  One of my goals in this course is to introduce students to ideas that can potentially change the way that they view the world. This can relate to any major topic area in intercultural communication (e.g., how culture functions, the differences between cultures, how we identify and describe culture, how and why cultures communicate with each other, and the major contexts in which we notice cultural differences). After doing this assignment, you should be able to define and discuss the cultural issues occurring in the documentary and explain how it shaped the conclusion of the film.

TASK: 

Please assume that everyone involved in this film wants this reunion to work.  Heidi is excited.  Her Vietnamese family is excited.  The interpreter that travels with her is excited.  Unfortunately, the reunion is a failure and several years later, the participants aren't talking to each other. Why do you think that this encounter was a failure?
