What are your thoughts on this patent on apple? For this discussion post I chose patent number 9,058,595. This is an Apple Inc. utility patent for iCalender which is described as a smart calendar that allows people to send calendar invites and shows which have been accepted/declined.

Inventorship - The inventors listed are Patrick L. Coffman, Gregory Christie, and Manuel Colom.

Chain of Title - There has only been one owner of the patent; Apple Inc.

Ownership - Apple Inc. owns this patent and I do believe it is valuable as it is an integral part of the iOS software Apple uses across it's devices as the main calendar application.

Foreign Rights - This is a U.S. Patent so there are no foreign rights associated with it.

Encumbrances, License, and Exhaustion - N/A

Prior Art Citation - The Prior Art references are to Microsoft's 360 calendar as well as Hullot. In addition the examiner made 14 prior art references. The examiner researched all the possible prior art references and ended up allowing the claims. The main reason was that iCalendar connected multiple calendars together and allowed invites and declines while other calendars only focus on a single user interface.

Claims and Description - From what I could tell it looked like there were 66 total claims. The claims focus on the similarities between the calendar services, but really show how different iCalendar was in integrating multiple calendars in one.

Continuations - I was unable to locate any continuations for this patent.
