What crime under the Crimes Act 1900 has been committed by Lynda, and what defences are available to her.

Lynda is a former soldier of the Australian Defence Force who was involved in a serious explosion where she lost her team. Since being medically discharged from the army, she has been hospitalised a number of times for delusions linked to her military experience.

Lynda now works part-time as a rideshare driver. Lynda enjoys chatting to her passengers but occasionally her paranoia makes her suspicious of her passengers, and she thinks that they are 'enemy agents'.

After finishing his late-night shift as a security guard, Derek requests a ride and is picked up by Lynda. Initially they make small talk about how their evening has been so far, and then fall into a companionable silence.

A while later, Derek notices that Lynda has started giving him strange looks in the rear-view mirror. Lynda suddenly asks Derek who he works for. Uncomfortable, Derek tells Lynda the name of his employer. Lynda then yells "I know you're lying to me! I saw the gun under your jacket when you got in, and you're hiding something in that bag." Derek does not understand what is going on but tells Lynda he does not have a gun. Lynda is adamant and continues to yell at Derek, "Tell me the truth! Who do you work for? I know you're a terrorist!"

Derek tries to reassure Lynda that he is just a person wanting to go home after a long night of work. Lynda replies "Fine, don't tell me. Just you wait, once I get you to my team, they'll know how to get you to talk!"

Derek fears for his safety and decides to jump out of the car at the next opportunity when the car slows down enough. Derek gets his opportunity, opens the door and throws himself out of the car.

Derek reports the incident to the police. The next day, Derek's boss, Roger, stops by to check in on him. Roger laughs at Derek's story saying, "C'mon man, surely you were bigger than her! Why were you scared? You would have been fine. No man would be scared of some woman."
