What do you feel are the most common techniques leaders tend to use to motivate workers to perform more efficiently? On a professional level, what motivates you the most?

I don't want to use anyone else's work. I want a different opinion than my own. I work in a very unique position and I do not get to see perspectives from a "normal" position (admin, manager, director, SPV's, etc.). Please do not include anything that needs a reference. This is an informal, opinion only type answer.
