What do you think would be the ideal language policy for the U.S. and why? Not just "English should (or should not) be our official language." For example, the U.S. recognizes that language learning gets more difficult with age, so people over 50 can become U.S. citizens without passing an English proficiency test. Given this, and considering that citizenship comes with the right to vote, should the U.S. continue to provide voter materials in languages other than English? What about driving tests? What about bilingual programs for non-English speakers in public schools? Should private companies be able to have language policies for their employees? Alternatively, should the U.S. be able to tell private companies what language policies they can or cannot have? You don't have to address all of these questions (or limit yourself to just these questions). The overall question is, "What do you think would be the ideal language policy for the U.S. and why?"
