Antonio, a paralegal, is supervised by Claudette, attorney at law. Antonio gets a call from Claudette thirty minutes before Claudette is to appear in court to argue a motion on behalf of the firm's client. She wants Antonio to do some research before she goes to court. Claudette has just heard about a case that might help her win and she gives Antonio the citation. Because Claudette is in a hurry, Claudette gives Antonio the wrong volume number for the case. Antonio has a hard time finding the case, but after about 15 minutes of searching, he locates the correct volume. Antonio quickly copies the case and runs to court to give it to Claudette. Antonio is in such a hurry that he forgets to check the subsequent history of the case (called Shepardizing). It turns out that the case had been overruled by the state supreme court and is therefore no longer good law in the jurisdiction. The judge finds out the case has been overruled and denies Claudette's motion and orders the client to pay the other side's attorney's fees. When the client finds out the motion has been denied and that she has to pay the attorney's fees, she is irate.]
