What happens when applicants for a job meet the interviewer? Normally, the interviewer and interviewee look at each other and shake hands. There is the myth in the United States that a person who looks you in the eye is truthful and that a person with a firm handshake is an energetic, dynamic, take-charge type of person. Of course, that is a myth, but it is so deeply ingrained that it can affect otherwise intelligent, educated, and experienced interviewers. Bottom line: do not let a less-qualified person get the job you are seeking just because you lack an effective handshake and eye contact!
