A major change in sleep schedule is a transition parents face with a newborn (Martorell, 2020). New parents are awakened every few hours by their newborn's crying. Before the baby was born, the parents probably slept for several hours at a time throughout the night. However, the parents must get up every two or three hours to feed the baby after the baby has been born. Sleep deprivation and the stressors of having a new baby can cause parents to feel overtired and overwhelmed which can put a strain on their marriage (Martorell, 2020). Changes in marital life is a transition that new parents face as well. New parents are typically so focused on caring for the baby that they do not have as much time to spend together as marriage partners. Also, new parents are usually exhausted due to the sleep deprivation and stressors that come with having a newborn (Martorell, 2020).

A mother bonds with her baby by close contact, cuddling, and sometimes by nursing (Martorell, 2020). A father bonds with his baby by being positively involved in his baby's life, playing with the baby, and holding the baby (Martorell, 2020). When a baby develops a safe, secure, and loving bond with his/her parents, his/her physical, cognitive, and social development is affected in a positive way (Martorell, 2020).

The Bible says, "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward" (King James Version Bible, 1769, Psalm 127:3). Jesus demonstrated His special love for children over and over again in Scripture. Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God" (King James Version Bible, 1769, Mark 10:14b).
