ocial and home influences in a child's life have a great affect on a child's academic achievement. The context within a child's life also influences how well they will do in school. Two of these influences that can affect a child's school performance are self-efficacy beliefs and gender. Self-efficacy revolves around the way a child feels about a certain situation or how confident they are. Children who have a high self-efficacy believe they can regulate their own learning and can master schoolwork (Martorell,2020). They are more likely to succeed than other students who do not have a high self-efficacy. Children with high self-efficacy will try hard, persist despite difficulties, and seek help when necessary (Martorell,2020). When children have high efficacy and do well in school this increases their self-efficacy. However, students who do not have a high self-efficacy and do not believe in their ability to succeed tend to be depressed and frustrated which causes success to be more problematic for these children. Gender is another influence that can affect a child's academic achievement. Girls seem to do much better in school than boys they also receive higher marks in school in every subject. Girls also tend to not have to repeat grades, have fewer school problems, and do better in reading and writing assessments and outperform boys on state tests. Greater gender differences seem to show themselves later when children get to high school. Several factors such as early experience, biological differences, and cultural expectations may help explain these differences (Martorell,2020).

Different kinds of cultural factors affect children as well. One of these differences can be seen in class size. Educational benefits come from class sizes being smaller. When class sizes are smaller children can get more one on one time with the teacher, can get more of a teacher's attention, and allows for students to stay more focused on tasks. Another cultural factor that affects these children is when their parents decide on charter or homeschooling. Studies have shown academic gains of students who attend smaller charter schools whereas other results have shown mixed results in sending children to charter school. Parents also homeschool their children due to reasons of a poor or unsafe learning environment and a desire to provide a moral or religious teaching to their children. Studies that have been tested on if homeschooling helps with academic achievement or not remains in question. In the bible in (Proverbs 22:6) it states, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." This is basically saying if you train and teach children when they are smaller of the morals and values, they are to possess they will not steer away from these morals and values when they are older (20 Meaningful Bible Verses About Children and Parenting,2020).
