Marisol is a highly intelligent, 19-year-old heterosexual Latina female who attends a predominantly white institution in the south-central United States, in my case conceptualization. Marisol has a history of two suicide attempts, self-harm, depression, two hospitalizations, sexual abuse, and was diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder at the age of 18. The client presented with suicidal ideation and a recent break-up with her romantic boyfriend, which is the primary reason for going to her college counseling center. Marisol has several identified adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including abuse, being raised in an environment that undermines her sense of safety and stability, and traumatic events that emotionally impacted her ability to attach to others.
