PART 1: PAPER TOPIC PROPOSAL

TheBUS 206A Project, which is a formal research paper, will provide you with an opportunity to more fully develop the background and implications of a business ethics/legal/regulation issue within the context of the course.

Your paper topic proposal requires research in order to make your proposal as close to your paper topic as possible.For the first part of the project, you will submit a written proposal that will be reviewed by the instructor and will either be approved or rejected.If your written proposal is rejected by the instructor, you are to contact yourinstructor to submit another version.

The written proposal must include the following items:

1.Your proposed paper topic.This part of the proposal is required to be written inone sentence.Keep your paper topic narrow (but not so narrow that there are no scholarly/peer-reviewed sources available on the topic).

2.Why the topic is interesting and important to you.Include aminimum ofthree paragraphsabout why this topic is interesting and important to you.Address how you will focus the topic.If you choose a topic that is not of interest to you, it will show in your paper.Give this some serious consideration and contact your instructor for guidance if you need to do so.

Throughout this course, you will create a topic proposal (Week 5), conduct research for scholarly/peer-reviewed sources (Week 6), and write a research summary (Week 7).These parts of the project will help you prepare for the final project (Week 8).For the final project, you will combine this gathered information and present the following in an essay on your selected topic.

1.Introduce your topic.

2.Provide information on the background and history that relates to your topic.Answer the questions: What events resulted in the need for the regulation/law/act?What were the underlying concerns that brought about the regulation/law/act?Who were the parties/groups involved that resulted in the need for the regulation/law/act?These are just example of the type of information that should be provided in this section.However, each topic will provide unique and specific background information that will be required.

3.Include the description of the actual regulation/law/act you have selected.Discuss exactly what is covered and (if appropriate) what is not covered by the regulation/law/act.Demonstrate to the reader a comprehensive understanding of the regulation/law/act.

4.Include specifics about the impact of the regulation/law/act upon businesses and organizations.Answer the questions:Who has been affected and in what way by the regulation/law/act?How has the regulation/law/act changed society and the way businesses operate?These are just a few examples of the type of information that you need to address within this section.

5.A summary paragraph(s) on the topic to conclude the paper.
