What is the difference between complying with the law and complying with an ethical code?

Law is passed by a governmental authority, while ethical codes are created by companies and institutions.

Law is passed by private company, while ethical codes are created by governments.

Law will not on its own be adequate to protect and support the community. On the other hand, ethics is expected to fill the breach where the law cannot reach.
