Document D: Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) The crisis of overproduction was perhaps nowhere greater than in the agricultural [farming] sector. As more and more land was farmed, crops flooded onto the market, dragging prices down. Farmers were planting and working more than ever, but still couldn't pay back their loans because of the low prices. The Agricultural Adjustment Administration aimed to fix this problem by paying farmers not to grow crops on part of their land. As the supply of farm products went down, crop prices rose, and farmers made more money. The AAA benefited farmers while also regulating the nation's food supply, but critics argued that it was a huge waste of the tax- a er's money.
