There were many reasons why electric cars was declined, and the fall of electric vehicles was a "progress trap". The "progress trap" is a situation in which technological, social, or economic progress leads to negative consequences or unforeseen problems. Also, it occurs when advancements, initially seen as positive, but result in challenges or dilemmas that are difficult to overcome. The documentary film "Who Killed the Electric Car" presents the rise and fall of electric vehicles (EVs) in the early 2000s and the kind of "progress trap" that related to short-term benefits leading to long-term problems. The decline of electric vehicles in the 20th century is an example of progress trap that bring attention to the electric vehicles industry that faced so may challenges and difficulties at that time. While the gas-powered vehicles were growing more popular, electric cars appeared as a "boom" in the transportation industry.
