What is your relationship with water? Think on water for a minute...what does it mean to you beyond the universal importance of needing water to live? Let's go beyond that fact and think about if water holds any special meaning or connection for you. This type of information will help us personally understand how we receive scientific information about this resource and how we interpret that information. So please post below what you think your relationship is with water. There are no right or wrong answers, only insight! Image: Public Domain, no attribution required. https://pixabay.com/photosature-lake-water-landscape-island-4144069/I grew up on the river in a small prairie town. Every spring the river would swell from the snow melt and then normally would recede back into its banks. One spring the river grew and grew, and when it spilled out over its banks we watched from the house as it crept up the yard more and more each day. Astate of emergency was called when the river gates were closed in the south pushing all the ood water back to the farm elds. The house was surrounded by water overnight and my father would walk the dyke walls with a ashlight at night seeing if a leak had occurred. l was 7' at the time and was told if an alarm sounded in the night to make my way as fast as I could onto the highest point on the property that was marked by an orange agging tape and to take nothing with me. We would only have a few seconds before the ood water would consume all. The nights were long and scary, but eventually the water receded leaving behind dead cows on the riverbank and a contaminated well. You may think from this story that my relationship with water is one of fear but it isn't. It is one of respect and admiration for the value and power it holds, and it humbles me when I think of myself and my role in the environment. Today, | happily paddle the lake water in the north in my kayak but still always check the water levels on the lake shore it's a habit :)
