For this discussion, I am researching the Pennsylvania Game Commission as it is an organization I am hoping to work for. Their mission is to "Manage and protect wildlife and their habitats while promoting hunting and trapping for current and future generations". The organization was founded in the late 1800s due to unchecked pollution, hunting, and deforestation. Due to this the state legislature founded the Pennsylvania Game Commission to manage and protect wildlife in the state. This organization has been extremely successful in many ways. Not only have they successfully been proven to help wildlife populations, but they have also been successful at educating the populus on safe practices to ensure safety and survival for all. While they have had success in the past by bringing several species back from the brink of extinction in PA, they face new challenges that they must overcome. Habitat loss is a big issue in Pennsylvania and the Game Commission has been tackling this through cooperation with private landowners and recovery efforts. As an organization that actively works with local private landowners, they have a huge advantage with wildlife management. They not only protect wildlife, but they also protect the land through enforcement of laws. This protects local wetlands and other important ecosystems. While they have generally been successful, there have been some unsuccessful points made about managing their funds. Failure to acquire all the royalties they were owed by the gas and oil companies was overlooked. Not only this, but they continue to raise prices for their hunting and fishing licenses, driving many people away from the various activities that fund the agency.
