FAF did not make a mistake in selecting Mr. Joel Black as the next GASB chairman. Not only is he a speaker of governmental accounting issues, but he was also awarded the Service Award from Georgia GFOA. While he is a "private sector CPA" without a state auditor background, his knowledgeable experience makes him more than qualified for the GASB chair. As there is no requirement of any particular type of background in regards to the appointment of the GASB member or the chairman, I believe FAF selected a candidate who is eager to jump in to establish and improve accounting standards with the team.
