REFERENCE
Stephanie always knew that she wanted to have her own business and spent a lot of time looking for the right idea. She had graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Then, she spent the next two years working for a firm that produces conferences and seminars right across Canada, for a variety of different business groups.Stephanie recognized that speakers in the areas of skin care and fashion were often in demand and good ones were often hard to find. As a result, she opened a speaker's bureau to provide business, educational and social organizations with expert speakers in different aspects of the Cosmetics Hair and Fashion.
Stephanie negotiates a fee for each speaking engagement and pays her speakers a daily rate plus expenses. The speakers mostly work for her part-time and include cosmetologists, fashion designers, hair product marketers, skin care magazine writers, bloggers, spa owners, dermatologists, models, and a variety of college professors.
Right from the start, Stephanie's company received a lot of interest and publicity and she has enough work to keep all of her speakers busy. But there have been one or two glitches.
A couple of Stephanie's employees have shown up late or missed engagements, which resulted in complaints from the customers. Conversely, Stephanie has had complaints from some of her speakers about working conditions imposed by the clients. There have also been problems of in-fighting among Stephanie's employees over issues like who gets which engagements and who gets to work with whom.("Don't stick me on the same conference as person X because I can't stand them". "I have more expertise in that area than person Y but she got to give the speech". "Don't send me to any more universities".)
