What type of courage did it take for Jackie Robinson to be the first of his race to play professional baseball? We have seen that courage in so many over the course of American history. Turn that into a second part of what can we as a nation do to remedy the worst of racism? I am a historian. History does not care what you do. History watches, judges and records. It is YOU who must care. It is your life, your future and your nation. I made the decision at age 17 when i joined the Navy. I never betrayed the oath I took to defend this constitution. I have travelled to many places and for all of our failures, I still bet that, as Lincoln stated, the United States is the last best hope for democracy. Each generation must decide to defend or let it die. History simply watches.
