1 Student Marco "My best experience with group work was during an internship. We each had to complete complex tasks. Instead of doing them on our own, we worked together to do everything that was asked of us. Instead of doing it alone, we did it together, which made the work go much faster since everyone had expertise in a different area.
My worst experience with group work was in school. I was simply with people who had no interest in the subject matter, so no one got involved in the work. So I had to do the whole project by myself. Of course, I did not decide to do the work alone from the beginning. I tried to motivate them and make them work, but it was not enough. Collaboration is a good way to work in a group because each member of the group will work on all the topics discussed. This is much more rewarding than working on only one topic.
Nowadays it is important to know how to work in a group because most jobs in companies are jobs where we have to collaborate with other individuals to complete the task."
2 Student Melissa "The most successful group I had ever been in would be a group of 4 in business leadership; we had to gather information from a company and ask employees what they liked, what they would change, what they didn't like about the company standards and work-life. One of the members in my group had worked for Costco and was able to hand out some surveys, and we were able to use that information in our presentation. Our professor was impressed we could get surveys back from employees who work for a big corporation. The worst group I have been in would be high school; two members would not do their stressful part. Eventually, they did their work last minute and got a passing grade. I like to get tasks done early and relax later, especially on assignments or projects requiring lengthy writing and intense research. I would avoid this issue by asking any procrastinators to get their work done before the deadline and if they need help, let any team member,r including myself,f know. Collaboration is working with other individuals to get a project done. The association defines teamwork which suggests members in a group put in work and do their part to succeed in a goal, "divide and conquer" happens when individuals do the job without communicating with their team members and turning in their project. It is essential to work with others because they do the best projects."
3 Student Brenda "The most successful group project I did was back when I was in accounting class at Hartnell we presented the financials of a company. The behaviors that really help make this group project successful was the fully participation and dedication that each of the group members did. We all worked together and put our knowledge together. We agree to every piece of information that was in the report. Also, no one procrastinate or missed any of group meetings. The worst group experience I had was last semester for one of my classes. We divided the project into equal parts. Everyone was going to do their part when they had the time, but before the deadline. One of our group members decide to wait till the last 3 hours of the day the paper was due do his part. It was nerve raking experience because we didn't know if he was going to do his part because he wasn't answering emails or text massages. At the end the project was done but we all go a C it was so disappointing. I think that to avoid the issues faced in question 2 we all need to work together in collaboration. We need to meet and agree to every piece of the project. Everyone should actively participate and do their part to make sure the project is a success. The difference between collaboration and divide and conquer is collaboration means working together to get something accomplish. On the other hand, divide and conquer means to work apart from each other and dive the work. I think it is important to learn how to work well within groups because your going to apply it throughout your life. Like in the work place you will always be working with other people. Also, with friends and family when you plan a trip or an event you will need the group work experience. It is crucial to learn how to work in collaboration with others."
