The assignment: Watch the ads and ask these questions: Who is the intended audience for the ad? How do you know? What makes the advertisement funny? Are the characters funny? Are the characters 369 in a funny situation? How does the ad portray the characters? Are the portrayals positive or negative? If the character portrayals are negative, ask yourself why negative portrayals are funny. What is the message being sent? Ask yourself how someone different than you might interpret this commercial. If you find it funny, could someone else find it in bad taste or offensive? If you do not find the commercial funny, ask yourself why the advertiser thought the commercial would be funny.
