When France defied the United States and came out against the Iraq War in 2003, the same sort of stereotypes surfaced among some Americans as did at the end of World War II when the GIs liberated Paris: The French don't bathe, they're cowardly collaborators, their women are loose, and the like. Explain the psycho- logical impediments involved and compare the political climates that gave rise to these attitudes.
