When it comes to increasing the use of PPE among workers the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) indicates that there are five ways to do this: Use the correct equipment, enforce policies, establish open communication, provide quality education on the importance of PPE, and lead by example. Maintaining PPE and keeping them clean ensures that PPE the workers use is not broken or damaged and is clean for the next employee; by regularly enforcing policies it will become second nature for workers to ear and use PPE correctly; establishing communication with employees allows them to communicate what they like and do not like about the PPE, for example, if the current PPE is not comfortable to wear and is causing less participation then the safety leader can look for new PPE that employees may tolerate or enjoy more; Providing education on PPE could help show employees the importance of wearing PPE and that it is for their good; and lastly, leading by example is important because it could motivate employees to participate in safety expectations as well
