When the principles of system thinking are effectively applied to a learning organization's structure and the casual loop diagram is diligently and consistently used, organizations can be confident that the foundation for continuous improvement and ongoing innovations is laid. As long as the mental model does not become stagnant or inflexible then change and growth are inevitable. Senge (2006) defines a learning organization as "an organization where people continually expand their capacity to create the results, they truly desire, where new and expansive patterns of thinking are nurtured, where collective aspiration is set free, and where people are continually learning how to learn together, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the process. The CDC presenter stated it best when he quoted "Nate Silver's book called "The Signal and the Noise." "The purpose of systems thinking is to help us to be clear about our assumptions. To surface, make them explicit, test them and improve them, so that over time, we become less and less and less wrong. And the value of that is [we] become more and more and more effective."
