Whether a convicted murderer gets the death penalty seems to be influenced by the race of the victim. Several researchers studied this issue in the 1970s and 1980s resulting in several landmark controversial papers. Here is data from one of the studies on 326 cases in which the defendant was convicted of murder. The tables compare the race of the victim to weather or not the defendant recevied the death penalty or not.
