While sorely tempted, you elected not to take credit for work you did not perform. You still crave recognition and want to stand out from your teammates. Everything you do, however, seems to be measured against a team yardstick and not against individual performance. What do you do? You decide the only way to stand out is to ask for more work from your supervisor. While taking on more responsibility is a burden for you, it also is a way to highlight your value to both the team and the organization. You acknowledge that your organization evaluates employee performance against the framework of teamwork and that your efforts to stand apart from the team works against what the organization uses to evaluate employee performance. You decide to work within the accepted framework for now and hold off on seeking recognition
