Your task
- Develop and implement a work health, safety and security system for the organisation you are working with for the purpose of this activity.
The system should include:
- Appropriate facilities for the welfare of employees
- Incident/accident management, including reporting and incident notification to the WHS regulator
- The availability of information, instructions, training and supervision for employees
- Provisions for:
- safe machinery, equipment and materials
- safe premises
- safe entrances and exits
- safe systems of work
- a safe work environment.
To do this, you should assess the work environment and the current needs for health, safety and security. You should consult with personnel to determine these needs and to discuss the establishment of the health, safety and security system. This will include management personnel involved in the system, and it may include work personnel.
Consultations should take place before changes that affect employees' health, safety and security are made. All outcomes of consultations for the implementation of the system must be communicated to staff before it is implemented.
You should refer to WHS legislation, codes of practices, standards and guidance materials as needed to inform the planning and establishment of the system.
In collaboration/consultation, you should:
- Develop WHS policies and procedures for the system that are produced in an accessible format for employees
- Determine management practices for the system
- Define roles and responsibilities within job descriptions
- Identify and access financial, human and specialist resources (making sure approvals to obtain resources are gained)
- Establish WHS recordkeeping and monitoring of recordkeeping:
- develop WHS template documents and records to support the function of the system. You should create these using computer software
- Determine how ongoing WHS information will be communicated to employees
- Determine WHS consultative arrangements according to legislative and organisational requirements
- Include ways to resolve WHS issues for employees
- Establish procedures for hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control,
- create hazard and risk template documents (you may use those you developed in the Skills Activity or adjust these further to meet organisational needs)
- Identify interim and emergency plans for risk control
- Identify incident/accident response requirements, including employee reporting and WHS regulator notification reporting.
2.After the system is established: A)Inform employees about this in a follow-up meeting/Email/conference.
B)Provide an overall description and highlight any employee requirements or instructions. Next, you should implement the system.
