WIL201 builds on your previous industry placement and the skills and knowledge you are learning in other subjects in stage 3. In addition, WIL201 moves toward a deeper and broader focus on planning your career. Career Planning is important, as it will assist you to manage the direction you would like your career to take, the job skills and knowledge you will need, and how you can get them. Career planning involves:
Increasing your self-awareness; Investigating career opportunities; Making decision regarding your future employment; and Developing plans to achieve your goal.
From the class activity and discussion, you are required to make a Personal Career Plan based on the instructions below and on the Career Development Model (DOTS).
You have to include at least 5 latest references to support your arguments. Please refer to Harvard Referencing Guide.
STRUCTURE
Your Personal Career Plan should cover each of the following points:
1. Self-Awareness:
Discuss your current values, interests, skills, and personal qualities. As part of the
discussion, evaluate the results from the personal capabilities and competencies quiz on
Engage identifying strengths and weaknesses.
Personal statement: Briefly describe your interest, work values, skills, and personal
qualities.
2. Career Opportunities: Research the career opportunities available for you when you graduate and describe the chosen career, identify the capabilities, competencies and qualifications required for the job roles. Please consider at least 3 different job roles for this section.
3.Decision Making:
Compare the options available to you and select the most appropriate Job Role.
Explain how the role fits in your short-term (6 months after graduation), Mid-term (3 to 5
years after graduation), and Long-term goal (6 years after graduation).
4.Action Plan:
Make a gap analysis to compare competencies and capabilities that you already have
versus the ones needed for the chosen role.
Explain what your action plan is in achieving your short-term (6 months after graduation),
Mid-term (3 to 5 years after graduation), and Long-term goal (6 years after graduation). Within this plan, you may also discuss how you plan to develop the capabilities and competencies which you have identified as weaknesses.
5.Ongoing Career Check-Up
What activities have you undertaken on placements that have assisted you in developing
your capabilities and competencies?
How have you learned from others during your industry placement (e.g. managers,
supervisors, colleagues, guests/customers)?
Comparing your Action Planning in WIL 101, how does your view change? (Did your
goals or values changed? Did your action plan stays the same with a deeper understanding of what you may need to do?)
