William is a 17 year old Native American male. He has a history of Learning Disorders, Tic Disorder, and depression. He had been in counseling for 2 years from 12-14, and taking medication for depression. Peers are very important to him but he has been teased and bullied over the years. He works hard in school, does well, has participated in extracurricular activities, held offices in clubs, but only has a couple of friends. His parents are supportive, encourage his efforts, and are proud of him. His parents brought him to the clinic expressing concern that recent attacks by peers have greatly upset him, and they are fearful he may be suicidal. During the visit, William recounted how certain bullies ganged up against him and beat him up. He said he could not stop thinking of the attack, which interfered with his schoolwork, remembered parts of the attack and the pain from the attack over and over,he isn't able to enjoy anything despite some good things happening, he avoids these bullies and other negative peers, he has the feeling that he is about to be attacked at times,he always looks around tensely, he has trouble falling asleep because he keeps thinking about the attack, and feels startled whenever anyone moves quickly. William denies drinking alcohol and doing drugs. Family history included alcoholism in the extended family.
